A Study in Primary + Secondary Colors

Primary colors are red,  yellow  and blue.  Secondary colors are green, orange and  purple. Purple is opposite yellow on the color wheel: "The house (way above) is a perfect study in color theory application," is something that I believe Sir Isaac Newton would say. And he's a pro on this stuff. In 1666, he developed the first circular diagram of colors (above).

It's a Flukelele

I am learning to play ukelele (in Hawaiian pronounced "oook-ah-LAY-lay" ).  Yesterday I got a brand new "Fluke." (That is the name of my instrument.) I even got a gigbag (so that I could carry the new uke to my Adirondack chair in the fields.) My inspiration to play is: 1. My son is an amazing and long-time uke player. 2. My daughter lives in Hawaii. (Aloha, Annie!) 3. I went to college with ukelele pioneer Jim Beloff , who founded Flea Market Music . (We were in theater together. I did set-design and Jim wrote the music for a play called, "Dizzy, Daffy and Arthur".) *Note: This photo was taken at a luau in Kaui'i. ( That is not me in the middle.) 4. I love to sing. (Singing is easy while playing.) 5. The soulful rendition of "Over the Rainbow" by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole  really grabs me. 6. I like learning something new. Today I learned my first three chords:  C G Am F Was able to "play" Jason ...

Genetic Questioning

What happens when a house mates with a piano? Do you get a piano house? Or a house piano ? Is there a genetic tie between a house boat ... and a boat house ?

July Fireflies: A Nighttime Light Show

Courtesy of CBS Sunday Morning Oh, the glowbugs on a mid-summer night. Glorious! Stop a moment and embrace July, the seventh month of the year when the days are long and the nights are filled with the hum of crickets. I love the heat, the humidity, the lightening storms and thunder, the flowers growing and even the weeds creeping in. #summer #nature #fireflies #glowbugs #July #I LOVE SUMMER!

Oh, Baby!

Imagine the swell of maternal emotion when my dear friend hand-washed her daughter's baby clothes and put them on a line as decoration at her baby shower 28 years later? It's too precious for words. (And I love my friend even more for this tender gesture to her "baby" who is now expecting twins.)

Google: The Arbiter of All?

Just so you know ... as of July 21st, you are totally uncool if you use the word "Delete." "Remove" it from your vocab. Or else ...

Dog Barking: An Annoying Thing

There is a vociforous hound next door and I could have sworn for ages that they called her "Greta." E v e r y  single time the dog barks, they yell, "Greta!" Bark. "Greta ... STOP barking!" Bark.  "Greta!"   Bark.  Getting closer to their yard, today I overheard them yell, "Todo!" Bark. They go in circles. Either the dog is barking back, "My name ISN'T 'Greta' or they have a new dog whose name is 'Todo'." In any event, the bark of the dog is incessantly followed by the bark of a human. I don't know who needs behavior training the most.

Laps With a Tortoise

I did not particularly like swimming close to a tortoise.  Would you?
